Not to long ago I wrote about the right way to wash your hair. I’ve gotten so many emails and comments from people telling me how happy they were that it worked! (I know right?! Who knew that one little trick could make such a difference?)
Today we are talking hair again. Except this time we are talking hair brushes. Now, if you would have asked me a few years ago the difference between one brush from another, I would have honestly told you that I had no clue. But luckily for me, I had an amazing hair stylist friend who so kindly taught me all about hair brushes. And trust me there is quite a bit you should know!
Using the right hair brush for your hair can make a huge difference. But what brush should you be using? Well, I’m so glad you asked!
This first brush is one that everyone should have. You can get one rather inexpensively (like this one here) and they have quite a few uses. Most commonly they are used for detangling, but they can also be used for adding volume. All hair types can use this brush!
Do you have long, thick hair? Does it get tangled? Use a square nylon brush. It will help. This one is a great one!
If you suffer from damaged hair, brushing can be brutal. The bristles in this brush will massage your scalp without causing the dreaded major frizz!
If you are looking for a brush to help create waves or volumes when you are blow drying your hair, this is a great brush. Depending on the look you are going for, you can find brushes in a variety of sizes helping you to create that perfect waved look.
Blow dry your hair a lot? The right brush can not only help you to style your hair correctly, but also to cut down on your dry time! This round brush may look like the one above, but it’s actually vented. This helps the air circulate when you are drying it and can really decrease the time needed to try. Plus, you get all the styling benefits of a round brush! These are also available in a variety of sizes to help you get the perfect look you are aiming for!
I know the detangling game all too well. I use a wide tooth comb in the shower to help detangle my hair without damaging it. (P.S. It’s much easier to work from the ends of your hair up to the roots!)
If you are living up to the big hair don’t care mantra and teasing is your thing, then you better have one of these brushes!
Looking for the perfect part? Then you really could use a parting comb. (Sometimes these are known as rat tail combs!) One end of the comb is used for helping to create the perfect style and the other end is for making those straight down the middle (or to the side!) parts. They also come in handy while doing braids and other hair styles.
All of the brushes linked above are good ones! However, there is one brush that I have been saving my pennies for! Mason Pearson is known for their amazing quality. Their brushes are a little expensive, but everyone who I’ve met that has one/read a review from has wonderful things to say. They also say that you buy it once and it lasts forever. (Interested? Keep an eye on it. The lowest price I’ve ever seen it on Amazon was $93 and an average price of $130. Amazon prices can fluctuate so keep checking in to see if the price is higher than $130.)
